As some of you may have read before, I'm going on the old honeymoon the 2nd week of June. We're driving from Tennessee out west to hopefully Montana. I am very interested in dropping down to Texas for a pay dig, as that is the only state I can find that has them. I would like to surface hunt along the way in every state as well but assume that be almost impossible. I don't care anything about getting shot for stopping in a field in South Dakota haha. So I'm asking for some advice here.

Thanks,
Coach

Coach, I really wish you a nice trip, but I can't help much. As far as Texas goes, there is a website, TexasDiggers.com or something like that but I don't have a link. Most folks keep their hot spots as quiet as most keep their fields everywhere else. In the Four Corners, New Mexico, Colo., Az., and Utah, much of the open land is either BLM or reservation which can pose legal problems and things are pretty touchy there.
It is better to burn out than fade away.

Hard to give you info or advice concerning where to go, like Ray said, most are not likely to share specifics about where they hunt. Have you got any friends or family along the route? Even though they don't hunt artifacts, they may know other folks or likely areas. Went out to Las Vegas years ago, told my cousin who lived there my interest in artifacts, he doesn't collect but knew of a spot in the heart of Las Vegas, took me there and found 3 points and a handful of pot sherds.
You never know who or where might have a clue.

The site is called Texas dig pay site info
This site has only a few of the many we have here.
Most do not advertise.

I'm on a pay dig site this weekend.
There's going to be about ten+ people there.
I wish you luck, hell I wish me luck this weekend as far as that goes.

Coach- There is a place I have heard of in north central Montana near Malta. It is a rancher that I believe will let people surface hunt for a fee. Not to let your hopes down but I think our artifact hunting in Montana is a bit different than in the midwest and east, there really weren't the continually occupied villages/population centers out here as in other parts of the country so therefore not as many concentrations of artifacts. Unless that is you can happen upon a buffalo jump but most of them are either parks or privately owned. If I recall correctly I found a video on UTube of the pay site under Montana arrowheads or something similar. As a side note if you have time you should travel through Yellowstone park and check out Obsidian Cliffs. This was a major source of obsidian traded all over the Great Plains and The Northwest. Have a good trip

What part of Texas you going to be? I've recently got permission to hunt several productive sites on the most beautiful land to be found in Texas. I'm allowed to take one person. You can tell from my recent posts it's a super unpicked area and would cost you nothing. I hadn't planned on ever taking someone but I fully understand your desire and want to "pass it on". :)
