June 2025
Hey everyone, I appreciate the opportunity to be this month’s MOTM! I am a newcomer to collecting artifacts, only artifact hunting for about a year and a half now. I was born and raised in Northeast MA. As a kid, I was always enthralled with history and marine science and that has certainly helped shape me as an adult. I always wanted to be an archaeologist though as a kid, that meant dinosaurs, which this area isn’t especially known for. The stories of the Native Americans in History class really called out to me and the thought of finding “arrowheads” was a dream, though I never even thought it was possible to find artifacts near me.
Fast forward to a couple winters ago when I got to speaking to a friend about how I always want to find an “arrowhead” and was informed it was a possibility and that he has an extensive collection of local personal finds. My interest in fishing turned out to be a boon in my new passion. Well down the rabbit hole I went, and I spent hours watching videos, reading books and buying the Northeast Typology book though MAS. Shortly after, I made my first find in a spot that I have fished many times before!
I have amassed some very good spots, and am trying to cross off common local point types and lithics. Over the last year and a half, I have found many points, a lot of heartbreakers and quite a few tools of various lithics. I hope to keep this passion going and eventually get my young children (1 in the oven) into this passion.
I hope over time, as I build experience, that I can contribute a fraction of what a lot of the members here do. There is a wealth of knowledge to tap into!
