In ancient times, state lines did not exist. However, the ancient peoples that inhabited the region today known as Tennessee left behind stunning works of art beginning with Paleo times and continuing forward more than 15,000 years into the Mississippian period. While artisans crafted fine shell, pottery, stone, wood, and other mediums, their mastery of flint was extraordinary. There are many such exceedingly finely crafted flint masterpieces, and those shown (Figs. 1-5) here are just a small fraction of the numerous artworks of these gifted prehistoric flintknappers.
